Workshops and Events that feed the mind and soul

Due to COVID19, we have canceled all tasting events on our premises for the time being.

We are currently working on releasing tasting kits for home use later this year. We will post here when available.

Coffee Tastings

Coffee tastings are fun and accessible events to all.

The main requirement is to be curious and open-minded.

We have held coffee tastings for groups of friends, baristas, multi-generational wedding parties, sommeliers and wine afficionados interested in widening their tasting experiences.

Tasting events also make for great team building exercises, as we lean on intuition and free association to describe our tasting experiences.

Our tasting events are held within our roasting facilities.

We require a minimum of 6 and maximum of 10 individuals for bookings.

It is typically a 2-hour event.

Outline of Tasting Session

We usually start with a brief tour of our roastery, a short talk about our business, how we source our coffees and discussion about the roasting process.

This is followed by a brief introduction to the fundamentals of taste (what characteristics you taste where in your mouth) and how they relate to coffee.

We go over some of the language about taste.

Our coffee tasting sessions can be customized according to your group’s interests.

Here are the main formats we offer (the first option below is our most popular):

  1. Four single-origin coffees from 4 different countries, all medium roast, all brewed with the same method and brewing ratio (Able cone or SCA cupping protocol). This session is designed around featuring the unique flavour characteristics of each origin, cultivar and processing method. The focus is on contrast of flavour from one origin to another. Some of the coffees will feature very distinctive fruity notes (blueberry, strawberry, etc.).

  2. Two single-origin coffees, each roasted 2 different ways (lighter and darker), brewed with the same method and brewing ratio (Able cone or SCA cupping protocol). This session is designed especially for groups where the members have a range of preferences from light to dark roast. The aim is to outline similarities in flavour between darker roasts of different origins, and the contrast in flavour between degrees of roasting (for the same origin), as well as between lighter roasts of different origins.

  3. One single origin coffee, same roast, brewed 4 different way: 1 paper cone, 2 Able cone (different grind and brewing times), 1 French Press (Bodum). This session is aimed at improving home-brewing skills based on knowledge and personal preferences. The goal is to discover differences in flavour attributes, flavour intensity & body. The range in brewing method is meant to outline a progression from higher flavour clarity and lighter body (fruity and nutty flavours), to lesser flavour clarity and more body (bittersweet and dark chocolate flavours). The goal is to discover personal preferences, and ways to bring out desired flavour characteristics by adjusting grind setting, brewing time, or changing brewing method.

Coffee & Food Pairings

This event explores how different foods transform or enhance our tasting experience with coffee.

It is based on the same format (tour and tasting event) and options as our coffee tasting events, with an added element: food!

The food components are both a selection of simple ingredients (fruits, nuts, chocolate, dairy), as well as baked goods and pastries.

Depending on the size of your group (6-10 individuals) and interests, we can customise the format and offerings.

Food allergies will be considered in our selection of baked goods and pastries.

This is typically a 3-hour event.
